The upper abdominals are an important part of core strength, but they aren\u2019t the exact muscles you need to be targeting!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your exclusive core muscles are located in your pelvis, hips, and lower back, along with the transversus abdominis muscles that make up the \u201cpelvic corset.\u201d These core muscles serve as your body\u2019s natural stabilizers, making constant adjustments in response to nerve cells called \u201cproprioceptors,\u201d which give you your sense of spatial awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As your core becomes stronger through physical therapy treatment at D&amp;D Sports Med &amp; Physical Therapy you will be able to steady your balance much easier. When muscles are weak, it is more difficult to balance yourself from your center of gravity. This increases your risk for falls, and it can affect your arm and upper body movements. Some of them are even used by our therapists in <a href=\"https:\/\/mainstreetpt.net\/dd-sports-med\/physical-therapy-clinic\/denton\/\">Denton<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mainstreetpt.net\/dd-sports-med\/physical-therapy-clinic\/sanger\/\">Sanger<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mainstreetpt.net\/dd-sports-med\/physical-therapy-clinic\/aubrey\/\">Aubrey, TX<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"acf-accordion-block \"><div class=\"accordion-item acf-accordion-item\"><div class=\"accordion-item-inner\"><div class=\"accordion-title\"  ><h6>Supine Hip Twist on an Exercise Ball:<\/h6><span class=\"accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/div><div class=\"accordion-content\"><p>Lie on your back on floor with hips and knees bent to 90 degrees over a physioball; draw in abdominal muscles and maintain throughout exercise; slowly and with control, rotate knees to one side keeping hips in contact with the floor; engage obliques to pull knees back to center and repeat on opposite side; Repeat 10-20 times on each side.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"accordion-item acf-accordion-item\"><div class=\"accordion-item-inner\"><div class=\"accordion-title\"  ><h6>Abdominal Draw In with Heel Slide<\/h6><span class=\"accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/div><div class=\"accordion-content\"><p>Lie on your back on table or mat, draw the heel back towards the buttock while maintaining the abdominal draw in. Maintain as you return to the start position. Repeat 10-20 times each leg.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"accordion-item acf-accordion-item\"><div class=\"accordion-item-inner\"><div class=\"accordion-title\"  ><h6>Prone Bridging on Elbows<\/h6><span class=\"accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/div><div class=\"accordion-content\"><p>Lie on your stomach on a table or mat with your forearms\/elbows on the table\/mat; rise up so that you are resting on your forearms and toes; maintain abdominal draw in; your back should be completely straight; hold this position for 15 sec \u2013 1 min. Progress in increments of 15 seconds.
