Are You Living With Chronic Pain?
Cupping Therapy May Bring Relief!
Main Street Physical Therapy is proud to say that they provide cupping therapy as one of the many pain relieving techniques offered to their patients. Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine known as “tissue distraction release.” It was first used in ancient Chinese, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern societies to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Today, it is used to help with relaxation, blood flow, pain, inflammation, and much more. Some people relate it to a deep tissue massage.

What To Expect During A Cupping Therapy Session?
During cupping therapy, our physical therapists apply inverted rubber pumps or silicone cups to your skin. Your therapist will suction the pumps/cups onto the skin during treatment. As the air in the cup cools, a vacuum is created, causing the skin to rise and the blood vessels to enlarge. This vacuum reduces inflammation, relieves pain, promotes relaxation, and increases blood flow.
As a result, neural tissues, fascia, skin, ligaments, muscles, and tendons are more prone to dislocation. Cupping therapy relieves trigger points, increases lymphatic flow, improves circulation, and breaks up scar tissue adhesion.
Benefits Of Cupping Therapy
This treatment has a multitude of advantages. Cupping is an effective treatment method for a wide range of conditions, including, but not limited to chronic neck pain, low back pain, and fibromyalgia.
It can improve your skin’s health, alleviate respiratory issues, and even aid digestion. The suction in the cups creates negative pressure, which improves hydration and blood flow to body tissues, reduces bonding, and eliminates excess fluids. Cupping therapy also speeds up recovery and alleviates symptoms associated with certain accidents and illnesses.
It is critical to understand that cupping can cause circular bruises on the skin that can last for up to two weeks. These bruises usually heal on their own and are not cause for concern!
