Are these symptoms accompanying your dizziness?
A lack of sleep, a poor diet, excessive exercise, or a disease such as a head cold or flu can all cause dizziness. However, the cause of dizziness can also be a problem with the inner ear. Physical therapy is important if this is the cause as it will help to resolve the symptoms of dizziness/vertigo.
The following symptoms may accompany dizziness:
- Loss of balance
- Feeling faint
- Tunnel vision
- Light-headedness or heavy-headedness
Seeing a physical therapist is the best way to figure out what’s causing your dizziness. This will help you rule out any underlying conditions or factors.
Watch out for these vertigo symptoms
The most common cause of vertigo is an imbalance in the inner ear, also known as the “vestibular system.” Your vestibular system assists you in maintaining your balance and center of gravity by sending signals about your movement to your brain. If this system is damaged or malfunctioning, the impulses needed to keep you balanced cannot reach your brain.
Vertigo is a natural reaction that occurs when your body’s balance is thrown off. This is difficult to manage because it disrupts your daily routine and way of life. Vertigo causes you to feel as if you are “rocking” or “spinning” even when you are sitting.
Keep an eye out for the following symptoms:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Double vision
- Sweating
- Abnormal eye movements
- Arm and leg weakness
- Difficulty with vision and speaking
- Unable to concentrate or stay alert
If these vertigo symptoms sound familiar, it’s time to seek the assistance of a physical therapist. Make an appointment at Main Street Therapy Partners by clicking here.
Why am I experiencing dizziness and vertigo?
Vertigo and balance issues can be caused by a number of factors, including:
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
BPPV is a common cause of dizziness. It happens when tiny calcium crystals in your ears become dislodged and move into places where they shouldn’t be. This can cause vertigo (sudden spinning) and inner-ear discomfort, particularly while lying down. – Put for BPPV above.
Meniere’s disease
This disease develops when fluid builds up in your ear (s). This is distinguished by a “ringing” in the ears and brief bouts of extreme dizziness that can last for hours. It is also possible to experience temporary hearing loss.
Stroke
A stroke has an impact on how the entire body moves. If you have recently had a stroke, you may experience long-lasting vertigo waves.
Vestibular neuritis
This is an inner ear infection that can cause vertigo.
Migraines
A migraine can affect the vestibular system, causing vertigo and sometimes light or sound sensitivity. Your vision may worsen as well.
If any of these symptoms or conditions sound familiar, it is likely that your balance has been compromised. Seek dizziness and vertigo relief from our licensed physical therapist at Main Street Therapy Partners!
